From the parking area, head west on CR 27 (paved) until you reach CR 37 (Sage Creek). Turn left here and begin easy climbing along the dirt road paralleling Fish Creek. The wide open pastures juxtaposed with some wild rocky outcrops will keep your attention off of the road, which should be fine as this area sees little traffic. After 3.5 miles on the dirt, you'll see CR 37D on your left. Here you have the option of either turning left to follow Fish Creek, or continuing straight for another 1.3 miles to CR 37A and climbing up Yoast Gulch up to Salt Creek. For something in the middle, take CR37A then stay left for 37B. The total distances of the loop using these three alternates are 30, 33, and 34 miles, respectively. All roads eventually reach CR 29, at which point you will make a left and head up Fish Creek towards the NF boundary. From the junction of CR 37D & CR 29, you'll get 6.4 miles of remote Routt County Road riding through sage lands, pine forest, aspen groves, and pasture before crossing a small bridge over Trout Creek and arriving at the junction of CR 29 & CR 132A. Stay left here and begin the descent down the Trout Creek drainage. This section is a great opportunity to have a snack while you freewheel or soft-pedal the 7 miles back to CR 27. Turn left onto the paved road and begin the first of two small climbs (about 200' each). Savor the views as you return to the parking area, which is 5 miles from the turn off of CR 29.
