Ouch. That was a thing. Was slow getting myself out the door, so didn't get to the trail until 2:30pm: lower parking lot was about 2/3 full. Tried out Iverson to warm up for the first time: some challenging tech on the climb: one climbing section marked black diamond that I walked most of. I'll have to give it another go. Ground my way up to the top, for a glorious view of Rainier and to eat my sandwich; a bunch of kids were hanging out at the picnic table, but I wanted to sit in the shade anyway. I thanked them for choosing to not hike down the MTB trail (and also recommended they check out Ape Caves at St. Helens, with appropriate gear!). On my way down OTG, I tried to clear out a half dozen low puddle spots. It was hard to find sticks that were robust enough for trenching and didn't just snap. Decided to try for a full second lap, so ground back up to the top. Saw a few more riders up there this time (it was about 5:30 by then). Second time down OTG, some of the spots I'd cleared had mostly drained out, so that was good. Felt really good on that second descent: caught air a few times, and took all but one of the rock/root rolls, with a bit of pinballing along the way that I managed. Great day out, and I got home very hungry!
