It was supposed to be a really warm and nice day but outside my front door, the wind was pretty chilly. I hadn't planned on bringing any extra clothing but decided to given my experience with getting cold last weekend. It would later save my life.
Decided to start the ride by climbing the singletrack I discovered hiking earlier in the week. I liked it. Bob did not. He got to hike it too. :)
Sawyer Camp Trail has been re-opened and boy was it crowded. Immediately we could see the ominous clouds resting on the mountain tops signalling it was going to be cold and gray at the coast. Further along though, we could see it was clear over Sweeney Ridge.
It was our first time descending Baquiano Trail all the way instead of mistakenly taking Farallones View Trail like we did last time. The section I missed before is more of a loose singletrack than the initial fire road/double track but I liked it. Bob didn't.
The first part of Apes was sunny and nice but near the top we could see those clouds. Once we were along the ridge and onto the other side, it was quite chilly.
After Bob's bad experience, I cut short a lot of the planned dirt since it was more of the singletrack variety than fire road.
Dad's Luncheonette still doesn't have indoor seating but the set up pallets to sit on out in the field and was fairly busy. It was also really cold, so cold I couldn't finish my chocolate cherry custard. :(
Riding through HMB, it was cold, even with all my life-saving layers on. Weirdly, as soon as we made the turn on to Higgins, it was 10 degrees warmer and a little humid.
From that point on it was much nicer. I just took it easy on Purisima Creek and enjoyed the scenery while Bob suffered a bit.
We chose to take the fastest way home, which meant Skyline/92. The end of the Skyline descent is always windy but it was especially cold today. 92 was pretty backed up, even worse heading to HMB.
The legs didn't feel great at the start since I hadn't ridden all week but the felt pretty good at the end.
