This ride is a shorter ride that starts out of Waterville. The ride begins with a scenic gravel climb up Mt. Sterling rd. After the left turn the gravel winds up and down for 6ish miles til you get to Buzzard's Roost look out on the left. (It's a pull off on the side of the road with a 300ft hike down to the ledge that looks out into the TN/NC Gorge).
From Buzzard's roost the descent starts down to Harmon Den where you will go under the interstate and start the gradual climb up Harmon Den Rd. After 3ish miles you take a left up a steep climb for a short 1 mile, but don't let the distance fool you it is steep.
At the top of the climb you reach a point where the Appalachian trail crosses. This is where the descent starts down Gulf Rd into Martha Sundquist State Forest. After reaching the pavement you have just a few miles before your last gravel climb up and over Green Corner into Waterville.
On the way down the last descent (Green Corner) There is the Standing Bear Farm Hostel where many people hiking through the Appalachian Trail stay. I advise to stop in and check it out. They even sale locally made CBD.
