Another great full day at Raging, even with the mucked-up rear brake and washout on Flow State (not being able to use the rear brake really makes cornering hard, even at low-ish speed!). Pushed hard to try to set a new best time to the overlook, and beat my previous best by 10 minutes! 1:06 to the top! I think with a bit of work I can do it in under an hour, which I didn't think was possible for me. On the way up, I passed Michael and we chatted a bit as I eased by and I told him I was trying to beat my old time. He proceeded to follow me up the rest of the way, only lagging behind in the last couple of sections. I think I got up just a few minutes faster than him: he said I had inspired him. I had my sandwich at the overlook, and then Michael and I rode the rest of the figure-8 together. He had a RM Instinct BD, which has a lot more travel, but we paced each other pretty well throughout. Dunking my head in the creek at the bottom of No Service was amazing. Had another snack at the overlook, then we descended CCDH together, swapping lead. It was much drier than the last time I was there, and being second meant getting a face full of dust. We both rode the big rock on CCDH, twice, and recorded each other doing it. Was good to have support for that. I think my new Nobby Nic rear tire saved me in one spot where I took a low line and almost sank off the trail, but it kept enough grip to let me pull back up. Near the bottom of CCDH, I was getting some strange rear brake noise: I think I may have worn through a pad? Have to figure it out tomorrow. Michael had chain problems, so we both limped out via lower Poppin'. I made a point of not touching my rear brake on Poppin' and Flow State, which meant taking them really slow, but apparently not slow enough, because I washed out going into a berm too fast on Flow State (better to wash out than go over the lip!). Chocolate Crossaint from Celine in the car was brilliant.
