Fully living up to its name!
We were originally going to start at the top of Canyons Resort to do the hard climbing at the beginning but we couldn’t drive up because it was a gated community. Luckily we found an alternative and was able to park on Guardsman Pass.
That just meant we started the ride with Puke Hill - super steep. Glad we did it at the beginning and not at the end. Also riding at 10,000 feet didn't feel as bad as last weekend.
It was really beautiful along Wasatch Crest but it got rockier and rockier. At a view point we stopped and ran into Jackson. We rode together for a little bit including the infamous Spine. So gnarly.
The trail was pretty rocky all the way until getting back to Armstrong trail. I went through so many rock gardens, up and down, scree and surfing the granite.
Trying to go over and avoid all the sharp rocks for so long got very tiring, both physically and mentally.
By the time we got to the smoother trail after Armstrong, it was time for a 2000’ climb to finish the ride. I wasn’t looking forward to this part and it was every bit the slog I thought it would be.
The ride itself was spectacular and gorgeous, and definitely epic!
