A chilly and gray Veteran's Day to do the Ultimate Bakery Ride Challenge - visit these nine bakeries:
1. Liguria Bakery
2. Arsicault Bakery
3. B. Patisserie
4. Jane the Bakery
5. Cinderella Bakery
6. Lung Fung Bakery
7. Arizmendi Bakery
8. Anthony's Cookies
9. Dynamo Donuts
It didn't start off great as the route wasn't sync'd to my Garmin and for some reason wouldn't sync even though it said it had. We knew most of the way anyway but there were some parts that were different than how I would've navigated it.
We had to cross town to get to the start. The first bakery, Liguria, was just selling bread so we decided to pass. Then it was taking the scenic route through the Presidio to get to probably my three favorite bakeries in San Francisco.
Through the Marina, I thought about stopping at the Dynamo Donut kiosk to pre-donut but decided to keep going. Probably should've stopped as, spoiler, Dynamo at the end was sold out. Next time, it'll be the first stop on the ride.
Arsicault - pretty big line but was delicious as always. We split a Chocolate Almond and a Ham and Cheese croissant.
B. Patisserie - my favorite bakery, was closed! I was so looking forward to going there since it's been forever.
Jane the Bakery - we split a Banana Bread and a Kouign Amann. Good but missing something extra.
Cinderella - we each got a Piroshki w/beef. Good but would've been better warmed up and maybe add some veggies inside.
Lung Fung - by the time we got here, I think we were a little full so we put all the goodies in my bar bag for a picnic at Mission Dolores Park later. We didn't plan on getting much but they said they had BBQ Pork Buns, Curry Tarts, Chicken Puffs, and Egg Tarts fresh out of the oven so we had to get one of each.
Arizmendi - had a long line and both of us don't really think they're that amazing so we stopped for the photo and moved on.
Anthony's - neither of us were in the mood for a cookie. Photo and moved on.
Dynamo - well we were so preoccupied with the traffic and looking around in the Mission that we totally missed it. We were most of the way to Dolores when we realized where we were. The funny thing is I was worried about missing it and thought about stopping to check but didn't.
I had my eye out for the store front as we were approaching and nearly missed it again. We were right on top of the store when I saw it and yelled, "DYNAMO!!!"
Sadly, as I said earlier, they were sold out. We were on a mission to find another donut and ended up with a sub par glazed donut from Jim Georgie's Donuts.
We found a nice spot at Dolores and discovered, what we both agreed were, the best pastries of the day from Lung Fung. Everyone of them was the best! Maybe it just hit the spot at the right time since we hadn't had lunch, and had so much sweet that we needed something savory.
Seems fitting that the only place we were able to get an SF Bakery Ride sticker from was Lung Fung.
We both really didn't expect the ride to take this long but it was fun!
