Took my first trip down to BDOS. Started the ride after 3pm, so didn't have a lot of light left (there was a long line at 85C in Renton, and getting out of the mall lot took forever!). In the first few minutes, I noticed that I could only shift up to the middle cog: the shifter wouldn't go to the big cogs. Ended up stopping and pulling cable through: not sure how it got messed up, but I got it to a workable condition. Once that was settled... BDOS is a fun place, and would probably be even better if I went with someone who knew the area. I just wandered around, heading for the north area where I saw some black trails. Ended up riding up what were probably supposed to be down trails (no surprised), and did finally find Beaver Tail, which is a nice technical XC trail (rated black, but it's really blue with a couple harder large root crossings). On my way out, I went looking for Blind Pig, and ended up stumbling on the free ride park on the south side. Took a quick spin on a bermy flow trail before getting back to the car. There was crusty ice on the trail in places, so I guess winter is finally here? In any of the open spaces, my hands got pretty chilly. On the flip side, there were also mud patches. Microclimates!
