Not bad for the day before the night before Christmas -- temps in the mid 40s, a little bit of sun, pavement dry, breeze from the south. Just a prelude to what's expected to be a stormy, wet Christmas Eve. It's not almost 70 on the day before Christmas (see https://ridewithgps.com/trips/7397134) but not bad, not bad at all. Took a few miles in that starting downhill segment to get enough pedaling to get warm, but eventually was pretty happy to be wearing shorts (yes! shorts! In December!). Seem to be getting a handle on the layering and so forth for riding in the 40s -- regular gloves, no hat, no ear warmers, no neck gaiter. Have tried all of those, including warm, full-fingered gloves, and end up stripping them off after 5 or 6 miles. And while the stop at 26 (portajohn for dan) was a welcome rest, I soon got cold and it took another few miles to warm up again, only to zoom downhill and cool off again. The stretch from 29 to the end was plenty warm and I was pretty wet at the end. So some stuff still to figure out. Might just be technique -- open the coat more to dry out? Legs felt good all the way around the loop though the stretch from 20 to 27 got to be a challenge toward the end. Sooo much MTB this year (all intervals) and my steady, sustained output has suffered.
