Mixed surface, gorgeous, challenging ride.
This is a pretty and interesting mixed surface route in the area around picturesque Micanopy, Evinston and McIntosh. There are lake views, quaint barns, sandhill cranes and likely even some zebras! This is NOT A CLOSED COURSE. The paved roads where we have to really watch for vehicles are marked in RED. Quiet paved/chip seal country roads are marked in green. Unpaved roads are in brown. Optional 7-8 miles (or less) of singletrack and doubletrack at the end when we get back to Barr Hammock Preserve follow the well marked BLUE Bayhead Trail, the YELLOW Still Branch Crossing and BROWN/GOLD Hammock Loop. There are usually paper maps at the kiosk in the parking lot, and there are good signs in the preserve at trail crossings. These are not technical trails. There may be some short sections with soft sand and possibly 2 little water crossing "go arounds." We do not have to get our feet wet, (unless you really want to!) The RWGPS did not work through these trails, so your cues are not accurate. They are approximate. Be sure to YIELD to HORSES and pedestrians in the preserve. There are no restrooms, unfortunately, but lots of trees!
