In 2020 I planned to run my first 100 mile ultramarathon, and then the world got hit with a pandemic. So, I created my own self-supported 100-mile course, and when I say self-supported, I mean with the immense aid of so many friends! I created this route for many reasons. A main reason is that it starts and ends at my door step, while also traversing 2 mountain passes. I also feel at home in Anchorage, as it is the first place I ventured into mountains, these mountains. I rested a little at the midway point, so it wouldn't be hard at all for another human to finish this run in a faster time than me. I don't know if you'll have the same magical experience as I did though. I actually met a man from Figi the night of the run, and he joined me for a cold starry night run over Power Line Pass. This was a real bonus to the experience, as this was a long 2-year fundraising journey for a local scholarship to support students of color who are pursuing outdoor recreation and to support Melanin Base Camp. Meeting that person was hands down the most magical part of these experience. I ran all of Crow Pass without seeing many other people, which meant a solo river crossing and then about gave up at mile 95 as I laid next to the Glenn High, and then running a few miles in a parking lot to hit a full 100 miles. It was quite the journey. I don't know if I'll ever do it again, but it was an experience I'll never forget, that was so huge I haven't even really been able to process it yet. To my knowledge, this is the current fastest known time for this route. Somebody go beat my time :)
