Nice loop around the Quebradas area starting from the Escondido bride, just north of Socorro, NM. If long lonely stretches of dirt roads are your thing then this is for you. Lots of options for alternate loops but beware some of the tracks found on maps are not real and end in forever sand slogs. Riding this loop clockwise lends nice views down to the Trinity site which is still miles away but true to NM skies you can see forever! There is a house at about mile 25 that has a large white gate across the road. As far as I know this is a public road and the gate is unlocked. Just leave it as you find it. There are several other gates like this in the area so it must be a thing with the locals. By the profile it looks like all the climbing is in the first 20 miles but beware of the rollers on the return leg north along the Quebradas Backcountry Byway. Unfortunately this section is seeing more traffic and the washboard is getting real. I threw a water bottle on one descent but realized it so it was only a 30 yard climb back up to fetch it. Be aware of the wind direction! Zero water on route. Definately would not ride this in the warmer months.
