My ride. I have only one taker, Cliff. who willingly agrees to be my back marker, to keep my imaginary friends under control,
Through Ickenham, Eastcote and Pinner, we zoom past the Moon and Sixpence at Hatch End, much to cliff's disappointment. Does he really need a pint that early in the morning? We stop for refreshments at Morrisons. Remembering that I am honour bound by Puffing to take pictures of any stop not on his list, I take a couple of photos of the building. Yes I know, one supermarket looks pretty much like any other, but it's the thought that counts.
Continuing on through Harrow Weald, we climb a never ending hill at Stanmore. The new chain I put on yesterday is noisy, particularly so under load. My fault for using a cheap BMX one, is my initial thought; however it could be the rear sprocket, which I know is worn. I'll try reversing it to see if that helps. With the High Sierra behind us , we continue past Elstree to our lunch stop at The Three Horseshoes at Letchmore Heath. I know it was supposed to be The Orchard Cafe at Shenley Park, but it was nearly one o clock and Cliff was getting tired, hungry and thirsty. After lunch we decide to finish off with a coffee. The new owner, eager to try out his range of fresh coffee, invites us to choose a variety which he then serves up in a cafetiere. The first attempt is a bit weak, so we are allowed another go. This guy is a bit of sportsman, so what with the coffee and the conversation, we are there nearly two hours. This is more like a short ride stop. At nearly a quarter to three, we resume our journey.
Turning left up Watling Street, and left again at Colney Street, we pass through Bricket Wood on our way to Tescos Extra at Watford, for some more coffee at the Giraffe Restaurant. Cliff drops his cable lock the ducks side of the fence and has to do some nifty acrobatics to retrieve it. He also takes the lead on the return trip, and we set off along the Ebury Way as far as Tolpits, then back through Northwood and Eastcote. The parting of the ways is at Long Lane, Ickenham. In spite of forecast showers, we are lucky enough to just get a light one on the Ebury Way.
All the best Bernie
