Ride begins from Yaquina State Park. The beginning goes through old town and then along the Yaquina River for 12 miles to Toledo. Continue on highway 20 business route to Highway 229. Ride highway 229 for 31 miles to Kernville. This long segment goes through Siletz and the edge of the Siuslaw NF. There are several rollers. The only lengthy climb occurs within the first 5 miles, but the grade is generally 4-5%. At the highway 101 junction, head south. There are several photo opps along the way, such as Boiler Bay, Fogarty Creek and Rocky Creek. After 10 miles southbound, turn off onto Otter Crest Loop. This is a 1.25 mile hill with a designated bike lane and one-way traffic. Enjoy a lengthy descent and come out back to highway 101. The final 5 miles consist of a couple short hills on 101 and then a little more climbing on the north end of Newport. The fog and stratus hugged the beaches and penetrated into Depoe Bay. Temps inland were in the 80-85 degree range. Coastal temps were in the mid to upper 50s.
