Today's weather was hot. In the upper 80's. Winds from the south. I wore the standard kit. I felt pretty good from the start. Perhaps, partially due to the headwind going up WTR. I flew to the top of WTR. I think I did a sub 7 or 8 minute climb. The descent was mostly fun and games. It became apparent to me that the wind conditions were different on that side of the mountain. I had a headwind for a good majority of the descent. There was a headwind about the first 1 or 2 miles going down. I don't remember what my time was on the turn-around point. But, it was probably faster than average. My legs felt good at the start of the climb. I was able to settle into a tempo from the get-go. I was doing no less than moderate tempo for the first mile or two. Once I reached the bottom of the loop, I picked up the tempo. I was out of the saddle for a good part of that section. I did more of the same tempo going over the loop monument. I pushed it just a bit. No big heroics though. From that point, I did good tempo and stayed within myself. I was able to hold it there for the remainder of the climb. My concentration was real good. I was in the zone and also thinking how I would approach the metric century if I choose to do it. Ailments were next to none. I think I had a hint of back soreness. I had some numbness in the right hand when I was approaching the summit. Balance and form was pretty good. My right leg felt a bit off though. I'm debating if it's a good idea to raise the saddle just a hint. I'll likely do this on the next ride. Gear is working well. I get my new wheels tomorrow, so the next ride will be a treat to try them for the first time. Other notes, I want to see if I can find a better case for my smartphone. The one I'm using now is bulky with it's mounting bracket on the back.
