Today's weather was warm. In the 80's winds from the north-west. I wore the standard kit. I tried the new wheels for the first time today. First impressions are promising. One of the qualities I like about it the most is that they are much quieter than the Mavics. About the ride. My legs felt good from the start. I was warmed up in no time. It became apparent that I was going to put in a good time. I reached Route 202 in about 20 minutes. I was able to ride the entire Banducci climb in high tempo. I think I reached the summit in about 35 minutes and change. I took a 2 minute break at the top and headed out to SS. The descent was fun and games. The wheels felt good, they tracked straight and stable in the winds. Although, I will have to see how stable they are when the winds turn turbulent. I was able to push it over the top of SS. Once over the top of SS, I recovered a bit and then started to push. There was a Fedex truck behind me as I was descending. I didn't want to get into a tuck, out of respect. I ended up pushing my 53x11. I reached over 40 MPH. I crossed the tunnel in well under 1 hour. I kept the momentum going till I reached the exit of SS and started moderate on the east-bound Banducci. After making the left on Pelliser, I increased the tempo. I kept it like that till I reached the last climb. I think I made it to Boss Hogs in around 1:16ish. Again, apparent that I was putting in a good ride. I did high tempo up the last climb. Half way up, the portable pump came unhitched from its mount. Fortunately, I had a velcro strap around it. I had to stop and reattach it. I had problems reattaching the Velcro strap, so I put it in my pocket and finished the climb. I pushed it over the top. After summiting, I pulled over and reattached the Velcro strap around the pump. After that, I headed out to Route 202, doing around 20 MPH (+/-) 3 MPH. After making it to Route 202, there wasn't any traffic to be seen going my way, so I started the descent immediately. I wound it up slowly to 35 mph. Made my left turn onto OTR. It was mostly fun and games from there back to the doorstep. Concentration was good today. I was in the zone, I felt real strong in the mind. Ailments were next to none, mostly exhaustion in the muscles. I had a hint of chest pain that's' been lingering in the past few days. I'm not sure what to make of it, but if it persists, I'll have to see the Dr. Balance and form was good. I felt better balance than the previous SS ride. Gear is working great. There's some mystery clicks here and there. I'm a bit disappointed that the mystery clicks didn't vanish after using new wheels. At least I know it's not the wheels. Could be the pedals... Other notes, there were no other cyclists today. No Race Communication work in SS. At least what I was able to observe.
