Today's weather was ideal. In the upper 70's with winds from the North-West (some of the time). I wore the standard kit. My intention for the day was to do a double. I made preparations for the ride, but storing bottles in the mailbox. My legs felt good from the start, I did high tempo going through OTR. I was more than adequately warmed up by the time I reached route 202. The wind conditions were turbulent on Highline. I think I had a tailwind going up the mile climb, then the wind was somewhat of a cross tail. At the turn around point, I think it was mostly a headwind. Nevertheless, when I was going into the headwind, I dropped the pace into moderate tempo. Otherwise, I was doing good tempo. I was able to kick it over the top, on the return. My legs were feeling lively. It was mostly fun and games on the way back. I stopped at the mailboxes and swapped bottles. I also to a swig of some Cytomax that I prepared in a small bottle. At the time, I had one power bar. I thought I could make it on my 2 bottles. I felt good making my way out. The wind had turned into a headwind at this point. When I reached the top of the descent, I stopped and noticed that my tail light was not turned on, so I turned it on before starting my way down the mountain. It was mostly fun and games going downhill. I was stretching here and there. Once I reached the base, I did a quick check of the bike gear. I'm not sure what, but it took me about 10 or 15 seconds. Immediately after, I commenced the climb. I was in the zone for the most part, and I was doing high tempo for the better part of the climb. When I was approaching the first difficult section, I noticed that I was getting a bit light headed. I recognized this as a lack of energy. I told myself that I'd make it to the loop monument and feed. That's what I did. I think I took about 3 or 4 minutes. After that, I commenced with moderate tempo. I kept it like that for about 10 to 15 minutes. In about 20 minutes, the light headedness had gone away. I was able to lift the pace after that point. I made it to the summit feeling good. I took a breather when I reached the summit and made my way back home. Mostly fun and games. Concentration was spot on. I was in the zone for the majority of the ride. Ailments were next to none. I had some slight hamstring soreness in the right leg, that went away by slowing the pace just a bit. I had some right hand numbness. Mild lower back soreness. Otherwise a very comfortable ride. Balance and form was good. Not great, but definitely on the right track. Gear is working well. I noticed that the Gopro wasn't recording after reaching the mailbox. I turned it on at that point. It was my fault for not remembering to turn it on after reaching the mailbox on the way out. The bike continues to have some clicks. I know it's not the wheels, so that leaves the drive train, pedals or shoes. Not likely the saddle as the noises persisted while out of the saddle. Other notes, no other cyclists to be found today.
