0.0 - Start from the Roosevelt Island Parking Area where the Mount Vernon Trail intersects the entrance to the second parking area. Head North on the Mount Vernon Trail and go over the bridge that crosses the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
0.3 - Turn right on Lynn Street and cross over the Key Bridge towards Georgetown.
0.7 - Immediately after crossing the bridge make an immediate right (U turn) to head down towards the canal.
0.8 - Continue straight at the bottom of the hill and ride through the Alley on the cobble street. Leopold's and Big Wheel Bikes are on this street. Stop by Big Wheel bikes and tell the manager, Patrice, I sent you.
0.9 - Turn right on 33rd street and continue over the bridge that spans the canal. After crossing the bridge continue straight and down 33rd towards the waterfront.
1.0 - Turn left onto K Street or continue straight to follow the path along the waterfront. Either way you'll want to continue on K Street for 4 blocks until 29th street. The Water Front is a nice area for a break or to soak in some views, but it is generally very crowded and difficult to navigate by bike, especially during warm weather months.
1.4 - At the intersection of K and 29th follow the path along the right side of the Ramp towards the rock Creek.
1.5 - Continue following the paved path to the right towards the Watergate Building and the Kennedy Center.
1.8 - Turn left and cross the Parkway to ride between the Kennedy Center and the Watergate. Continue towards the right following F St over New Hampshire Avenue and past the Saudi Embassy until F Street dead ends at 25th St.
2.0 - Cross 25th Street and turn right onto the sidewalk/path along the edge.
2.1 - Stay to the left at the fork to ride parallel to the road on the designated bike path. This will take you over the Roosevelt Bridge and will give you some great views of the Kennedy Center and the Georgetown waterfront to the north.
3.0 - Make a "U" turn and head south on the Mount Vernon Trail along the boardwalk. You can also head back to your car at this point if you continue straight.
3.8 - You'll ride under the Memorial Bridge, your goal is to turn back and over the bridge.
4.0 - Turn right at this trail intersection and carefully cross over the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Continue heading back towards the bridge.
4.1 - Stay to the right and cross the Washington Blvd Ramp to continue towards the bridge.
4.2 - Stay right and go over the memorial bridge.
4.7 - Continue bearing right and make a right on the second stop sign to head towards Ohio Drive. At this point you will be riding on the road. You can continue across this road and turn right on the path beyond it.
4.9 - Go through the light and around the Ohio Drive circle to head south on Ohio Dr. You can hop on the bike path that runs parallel to Ohio Drive and the river at this point.
5.6 - Go over the small bridge that spans the basin and turn left on the opposite sidewalk, the Jefferson Memorial will be up ahead and to your left. The road here is one way so you want to make sure to be on the path.
5.8 - Make a sharp right (U turn) in front of the Capital Share Bike Station to head over the 14th Street Bridge.
6.4 - Turn let at the stop sign to ride North on the Mount Vernon Trail. The Navy, Maritime Memorial will be up ahead and to your right.
6.6. - Stay left to remain riding north on the Mount Vernon Trail. From now on you will remain on the Mount Vernon Trail for approximately 2 miles until you reach the starting point of the ride.
7.3 - Stay to the right, you are now backtracking over what you rode earlier. There are some great views of the Memorial Bridge, the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument along this portion of the ride.
8.3 - turn right at the stop sign. Left will take you back and over the Roosevelt Bridge.
8.5 – Complete the loop.
