On the first really cold Sunday of the season, I lead John Hare, Dave Peck, Cliff Jones and Jim Swan out of Uxbridge. At Denham roundabout, I'm surprised to find Chris Kinsey missing. This is only temporary as he catches us up near the traffic lights. However John decides to follow Dave up Red Hill rather than follow us over the motorway. The remaining four of us continue through Gerrards Cross and Burtley Wood Services. Weaving our way through the dogs and walkers of Burnham Beeches we arrive at Coffee Eats and Treats about half an hour after John and Dave. After our refreshments, we leave them to their fourth pot of tea. Turning west at Farnham Royal we head towards Dorney Reach and then Windsor for lunch. At Windelsoria Jim and I have a meal deal of steak and kidney pudding, chips and peas. It is a very cheap meal indeed, and would have been even cheaper had I not remembered at the last minute that Jim had given me £20 to pay for it, and not the £10 I had given him change for. Senior moments are to be expected I suppose when you reach a certain age, but it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one. Return journey is the usual road trip to Datchet, plus a slight diversion through Poyle to Colnbrook and then to Iver. Cliff has Birthday duties so speeds on ahead. Jim Swan takes the Grand Union at Cowley. Chris takes the same route but I am not aware of it until I make a phone call. Great day. One or two hiccups but at least we all kept warm. Regards Bernie G.
