Five of us head south from Uxbridge with me at the helm. Following me are John MacMillan, John Hare, Cliff Jones and Geoff Clegg. Proceeding through Love Green and Trenches Farm, fighting a stiff headwind, we turn west along the Jubilee River to our elevenses stop at Dorney Court. The place is packed with old people, some even older than us. Being the last to get my coffee, as usual, I fail to notice the eviction take place. How else did my fellow Loiterers manage to secure a table for four plus one seat for me.
After refreshments, John H sets off on his own, while the rest of us head north. A welcome tail winded assists us up the hill at Taplow and Littleworth Common. We stop at The White Hart, Beaconsfield. While Cliff and John have a meaty fare, Geoff and I each have a vegetarian wrap with salad.Spicy, delicious and reasonably priced.
After lunch we continue north for a bit before turning east towards Seer Green. At the corner of Welders Lane, John suggests we take a look at William Penn's grave in the grounds of the Friends Meeting House. An interesting piece of history that I must admit new little about. At the top of Gold Hill, Geoff and John, both Ch St Peterites take their leave, leaving just Cliff and I to continue on to Gerrards Cross. Stopping at the Fego Cafe, the heavens open, and a half hour stop becomes more like an hour.
In a slight break in the weather we leave, not wishing to ride in the dark. An interesting and educational day.
Regards Bernie G.
