We woke up early to do laundry at the convenience store- I never thought clean clothes could bring me so much pure joy until this trip. At some point during the morning, Megan and Alyssa realized that one of the dogs roaming around the lot had stolen 3 of their bike shoes overnight! I suppose that means at this point mine are too gross for even a dog to want. The shop owner was unfazed. He said the dog never took things too far away, and he was sure we’d find them. A thorough hunt through all the bushes around the lot ensued, and we did end up recovering all 3 shoes. We set off on the road, continuing into the Navajo reservation through rolling hills and small canyons. The road was super low-traffic which made for pleasant riding. We cranked out the pavement miles pretty easily, until the last 20 or so which were directly into a headwind.. nothing to do but keep pedaling though. Grants is a particularly unpleasant place to bike through with lots of fast traffic and interstate and train noise, but we were glad to have made our destination. We camped at the KOA and availed ourselves of the hot showers (another thing that brings pure joy) and wifi to plan our travel home. We booked plane tickets for next weekend!! We actually might finish this thing! I also kinda don’t want to! So many feelings.
