A "starfish" route, except with a bit of a warm-up before the first big climb.
For metrics, see the map of this ride track, and the "segments" isolating the individual climbs (tab at the top of the left panel):

My ride was slightly different from the mapped route in that I went past the turn-around point (at the gate) on Rambla Pacifica, and went all the way down to PCH before climbing back up, and also after descending Grand View to Topanga Canyon, I went back up Grand View instead of Fernwood Pacific, since I had never done Grand View before and it looked to be a little more challenging.
This is a hard ride for just 50 miles, but a very fun day with Bryce and Heidi providing very posh support with lots of goodies at the top of Stunt (including birthday cake for me and Ed!), and a great group of cyclists, including a number of friends.
This ride closed the few gaps in my resume of road bike climbs in the Santa Monica Mountains. I had wanted to ride the section of private road between PCH and the gates at the bottom of the public section of Rambla Pacifica, and also Tuna Canyon (the climbing of which goes the against 1-way traffic). Climbing Grand View was an extra bonus!
I was suffering from a bad cold, and was very sluggish trying to wake up after too little sleep Friday night, the 200k on Saturday, and not quite enough sleep Saturday night. But I went to ride anyway, and, while it was cold at the start and my legs were not fresh, the day was a lot of fun. I rode a relaxed pace most of the day, and then was riding hard up Stunt when my Garmin crashed. I restarted the navigation of the course to check the distance to the end, and lost all the data from the ride. Very upsetting! So, I have no idea how much stopped time I had; I had considerably more than usual, stopping for a few pictures, and to adjust clothing between descents and climbs.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
