A bikepacking route that begins at the Linville Falls parking lot, heads down to Fonta Flora whippoorwill farm, makes its way over to Wilson's Creek, climbs to the Blue Ride Parkway, and then ends back at the Linville Falls parking lot.
Day 1
Started at Linville parking lot. The ride from there to the brewery is no joke. It’s not a long climb, but the gradient gets steep with lots of washboard on the way down. You quickly get an idea of your gear ratios and how well you’ve packed. Coming out of the brewery, pavement for a bit that’s easy. Turn left to ride on the Fonta Flora singletrack greenway bit, which is rolly and fun. Gravel bike is fine for this. Left turn at fish hatchery and still rolling.
Turning left off it at mile 32 starts the day’s climb. The worst part is just all the weeds; unless you go in the winter they’re about waist high and not fun to ride through. The end of the climb is capped off by what will be a hike-a-bike for most everyone. It gets really steep and rough-going for a bit. Campsite right at the top with a water source down the road 1 minute.
If you got there and it was full...that wouldn’t be fun.
Day 2
Fantastic riding. There are a couple climbs, but great gravel and solid roads, except for a short bit that features some large rocks and wouldn’t be that fun on a gravel bike. Wilson’s Creek is fantastic to ride through.
Camping that night about 40 miles in happens after the day’s big climb. It’s long but not too tough, just pedal and you’ll get up. Great campsites for about 1 mile, with plenty of water.
Day 3
The connection to Roseboro Road is NOT for gravel bikes. That could get really interesting if you pick the wrong line.
Roseboro isn’t so bad. Loooooooong, but just a matter of pedaling. Then VOILA! Back at the parking lot.
