Rode a lot on my own as I was unable to keep up with the group on the first hills early in the ride. Pete rode a hard, fast pace early, and was well ahead of the rest of us; he was pulling out of the rest stop near San Onofre when I pulled in. He was at the last rest stop, which I skipped, and he saw me go by but was unable to catch me. The rest of the group included Judy, Doug, Jeff and Loren. Loren forgot his driver's license, so he took I-5 down, while the others took Pendleton. I took I-5 and made it to lunch shortly before Loren, who waited for the others. Loren probably had less peddling time than me at that point.
The group, with 3 extra riders caught me on the return leg on I-5 shortly after I stopped at the rest stop to buy a Coke. I pulled a little, and otherwise dropped back well behind them so as not to benefit from their draft. I made it out of the San Onofre stop before them, and they caught me again on Camino Real. I continued in contact with them, alternately falling back and catching up, sometimes pulling. I pulled ahead before the descent to the last rest stop and skipped it, and did not see them again until they finished; they evidently suffered a couple of flats there at the end. Pete was at the last rest stop and saw me go by, but was unable to catch me. Two riders did catch me, though, and I finished with them. The guy with the red ponytail (made from yarn and attached to his helmet), and a big time randonneur that is also in the CTC hall of fame; he is really strong and made it to the lunch stop before me in spite of having a broken cable which left him stuck in the 11 cog. In true randonneur tradition, he was carrying a spare cable and fixed it at the lunch stop; I rolled in while he was working on it, and left before he finished, but he caught me just the same. I suspect riding with just the 11 cog to lunch sapped him of his strength, because, while the two guys went by me on Trabuco Canyon, I caught them on the rollers on Santiago Cnyn, and I ended up pulling them in the last 10 miles or so.
I had a total of 25:44 stopped time, but only 14:20 at rest stops; the rest was at stop lights, etc.
Rest Stops:
1st mini: 4 seconds (waiting for Teresa while she checked for Enduralytes)
San Onofre-outbound: 1:20
Lunch: 4:45 (there for 6:32 with 1:47 moving time - rode to men's room and back, etc.)
Mini (return leg): skipped
San Onofre-return: 3:19
I-5 (freeway rest stop)-return: 4:52
Trabuco: skipped
Total stopped time for aid:
14:20
Presumably, stop lights, etc., comprised a total of 11:24 stopped time.

Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
