I wanted to try something different and I wanted to descend Purisima Creek Redwoods OSP instead of climbing it so we did this loop in reverse. I didn't realize how much of a climb it is on Skyline from Hwy 92 up to Purisima Creek. Traffic was thankfully not bad at all. Had a Noah flyby near the top of the climb.
It was much windier today than I expected and it was really windy up on Fifield-Cahill Ridge.
I was really hoping the trails would have enough time to dry from last week's rain but most of them were very soggy with rivers and puddles and some were quite muddy. And I was a dummy and forgot my rear fender in the car. I regret not riding back to get it.
The original plan was to descend Whittemore Gulch but that got closed because of the wet conditions. I changed plans to descend Harkins Ridge which I was looking forward to since I rarely do it but given how wet and muddy Fifield-Cahill was, I didn't think it was a good idea to descend Harkins Ridge. As it was Purisima Creek was pretty muddy in place and it seemed spicy enough for everyone.
I was dressed appropriately so I never really felt cold except down at the bottom of Purisima Creek Trail where no sunlight had reached it and the ravine and creek just trap the cold.
I was staying really warm and dry until Emily told me to send it in a puddle at the Cypress Tunnel at Wavecrest OS. I ended getting a foot and my butt wet. It wasn't bad but it was much nicer before when I was dry.
We were actually surprised at how warm it was at the coast. From Half Moon Bay up to Pacifica we were stripping layers and I was getting hot.
Dad's luckily wasn't very busy but they had already sold out of their homemade chips. I had to settle for getting the Curry Carrot Coconut Soup which was really good. I'm not normally a soup person.
The muddiest trail of the day was the trail connected Green Valley Trail to Golden Garvin on San Pedro Mtn. Surprised no one ate it.
I wish I had thought to bring some lube with me. Everyone's drivetrains were sounding pretty nasty at various points along the ride. Heading north, I was feeling a lot of resistance. My poor, poor, drivetrain.
Tried some new trails at Rancho Corral de Tierra and overall it was just a wonderful day.
