This morning was very overcast but dry which was a great improvement - I set off out of Santiago heading roughly north and running parallel with the E1 motorway and the first 20 miles was a continual but not severe climb and I was 1500 feet up as the motorway signs were heading to Lugo I started a descent down to A Coruna. As I approached the city I was heading downhill and the road had a right bend, On the left a ridge started to rise and soon the ridge was 50 feet high and fenced off, the ridge increased in size and as I reached the bottom of the road it turned left and suddenly I was cycling below radar guidance landing equipment ... What lay behind the ridge was actually A Coruna airport !
Rather tha going into the City I took the first bridge across the inlet at Perillo and straight up a hill and by now it was steady turning to heavy rain, once over the headland I reached the coast again at Sada shortly after an absolute downpour, I had planned to stop here for some food and drink but it was far too wet. I was probably only 10 miles away from Ferrol but I would be cycling almost 30 along the very crinkly coastline, I passed another estaury at Pontedueme and then across the last headland before the estuary at Ferrol came into sight which was much more industrial than anything I had seem since Sines in Portugal. AS I came into town I passed a huge Gas Tanker with massive spherical storage tanks, once past this dock I was on a busy industrial dual carriageway into the city but bridge had a separated cycle path behind a concrete barrier and then the verge was decent so I felt relatively safe.
