An elite group of Loiterers gathered at Ealing common station for Margrets ride and we were entertained in the station before the start by a very irate lady giving the ticket attendant all kinds of verbal abuse, lucky he was behind his window which he quickly covered with the blind before asking for the Railway police to attend the incident over the tannoy. All this excitement before we even started!
Off across Ealing common and backroads and alleys, virtually past my house, to Kew bridge and Strand on the Green, following the river lead us to Hammersmith and then Putney bridge where 11's were taken in the nice little Cafe Nunu, prices were minimal and the service speedy.
Then came the carrying of bikes up the steps onto the Footpath of Putney railway bridge, Ray with his heavy weight electric bike was lucky in that a young he-man carried his bike to the top for him! On through Wandsworth park and to the river Wandle and King Georges park then by back roads to Bathgate road, about an 8% hill, and across Wimbledon common and we didn't see one Womble! Then into Richmond park and Ham Gate Avenue to Lunch at the New Inn. The food looked good and was served reasonably quickly as we basked in the garden in the glorious sunshine.
Across Ham common and Teddington lock and across the Thames into Teddington and Fulwell and Twickenham to Crane park where I parted company with the group and headed home. Their intended afternoon tea stop was the Cafe Moniz at Cranford.
