Wasn't really feeling a ride with wind at 40+mph gusts, so i decided to go for a walk.
So I was walking on Strandhill road, near Line Creek. I had just crossed between cul-de-sacs via a little narrow path. I was craning my neck in the direction of the wetlands surrounding the creek in hopes of seeing how swollen it was from all the rain. I spotted a man next to a tree in the woods a short distance from a house. He was making a strange motion like he was using an old fashioned saw. Which didn't really make sense because he was making the motion at chest level(why would you cut a tree down at that height?) and also there was no saw sound. So i was really perplexed. I was on the side of the road closest to him, and only about 50 feet away perhaps. Suddenly while I was contemplating the situation, the top half of a rather large tree suddenly gave way and came down in my direction. Thankfully It didn't come down on the road where I was. It turned out he was pulling it down with a strap and a come-a-long, and failed to look around for anyone nearby. I just had to laugh at how silly it was and kept walking away. I was close enough that he heard me and I hope he felt awkward. Great day for backyard logging operations, with 40mph wind gusts, in the bottomlands of a flooded creek after heavy rains. Anyway whatever, I kept on walking. Not a minute later and the wind really, really started gusting and roaring through the trees across from this house up the little drainage from where this guy was. I turned to look back at the treeline which was swaying really hard. Suddenly I heard a snap and one of the 100ft tall hardwoods fell to the ground. It looked like it was dead since it didn't have any branches, and it fell away from the houses around.
Later on when I was almost home, coming down the path connector from the 74 bridge to Preston Chase, there was a good sized pine tree down blocking the path, so I walked home, and came back to go ahead and clear it out of the way since it was so close to home.
