Well I didn't think I'd be doing a morning ride for a while now that DST started and we have more time in the evenings but here we are. :)
Anthony wanted to do OLH this morning and I wanted to test climbing on 170mm cranks after climbing on 160mm cranks on my Thesis for the past few months.
I've been waiting for the power meter for my Aethos and I just found out yesterday that it's delayed. Maybe that's for the best because after this morning, as much as I like how it feels to pedal out of the saddle and sprint on 170s, climbing seated is much better on 160s.
Luckily, it's much faster to order the power meter through SRAM than it is through Specialized Bay Area.
I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with Anthony but he was gone and out of sight even sooner than I'd hoped. The bummer was the sun was rising towards the top and I'd put so much effort into the climb, I didn't want to stop to get the shot of the sunrise. It was probably the best and only time to do it though. Towards the top, it was looking really pretty.
We contemplated riding back down to catch it but I think it was behind the clouds already.
Skyline was kinda busy, more than any of the other times I ride it. On the climb to Skeggs, I heard a semi speeding up towards us but we were approaching a blind corner so he slowed just before. The problem was it was going slowly next to us and it turned out to be one hauling giant logs of redwoods. Well the idiot was too close to us and didn't allow for the turning circle of his trailer and as it passed, the trailer creeped closer and closer to us. At one point I yelled at Anthony, who was in front of me, to get off the road because the truck was getting even closer and didn't seem to realize it. Crisis averted. It probably wouldn't have hit us but it was certainly getting too close to be sure.
Kings Mtn. was my first real descent on the Aethos and it felt awesome. Super fun and planted in the corners. It carves!
Luckily, Anthony had enough time for some pastries at The Village Bakery before he had to head in to work.
