Also new cranks and power meter day. Switched from 170mm to 160mm. It felt much better climbing. And out of the saddle, it didn't feel too bad. It definitely doesn't have the same feeling of surging forward when pedaling out of the saddle like it did with the 170s which is too bad. The start of the ride was hot. Peyton and I had a good laugh at the start as she was dressed in long sleeves and full leggings on one of the hottest days in a while. Contrast that to not wearing enough for the freezing day on John Nicholas Trail. :) I'm glad it was cooler along Skyline but once we dropped back down to Portola Valley, it was warm again, even without the sun. It was very pretty up on Skyline this evening. A friend of Peyton and John's, Brian, who couldn't make the ride but was meeting us at Alpine Inn, had gotten there early and grabbed a table for us when we were at the top of Alpine Rd. and Portola Rd. Peyton said we were going to be there in 10 min. I reckoned it would be less than 3 min. I started to pull down Alpine Rd. I slowed around Los Trancos and that's when John went by me. I looked over my shoulder and saw Peyton and Alice didn't make the train so I sprinted to get on John's wheel. I barely had enough in my legs to catch him. What really saved me was his enormous draft behind him sucked me back in. It was impressive. :) I think we made it to Alpine Inn in 2 min. Actually, looking at the results, I set a PR - 1:52. Yeah! Today we found several potential Peninsula Chapter recruits. It's looking like the momentum is gaining.
