a path to nowhere

Nowhere road lies up in Winter Range. This adventure began with a downwind run across the Alvord Desert Playa. We made the stop at Mickey Hot Springs for lunch and warm soaking feet. There is a rectangular pool dug into the outflow stream from one of the Hot Springs that has a very nice temperature.

Continuing along the east side of Mickey basin, the route crosses a small pass and continues up a long valley. Horse basin Road begins the climb up into Winter range. Is undulates through Sagebrush until dropping back down through Alvord-Wells gap back onto the playa.

You know it’s a great day when the high winds have shifted 180° and you have a downwind run back across the playa.
