N'Emonda. Sunny, temps from the high 40's at the start in Tanque Verde, 60 at the top and up to the 90's back in Tucson at the finish, winds variable, strong and gusty at times but pretty good overall. Got an early start (6:17), didn't see any other riders until 9 miles in. All of them were doing short rides, longest was to Windy Point Vista. Got passed by a couple around 25 miles while I was refilling a bottle but they stopped at 28 miles, so I was the first to finish the whole climb.
At my planned turnaround at the Iron Door Restaurant, the road was open so I continued on to the top where the road closed before the University of Arizona Observatory, just 100 feet below the summit @ 9,098 ft. Last 2 miles were pretty hard climbing at around 7-13%.
Rode back down to Summerhaven and stopped at the General Store to have a bite to eat and get some water. After the climb back, had the long descent down to Tucson. This time was a bit less windy than last week but still hairy at times. Chilly at the top so I wore arm warmers and light long finger gloves for the whole descent. The last 5 miles felt like a blast furnace with the increase in temps.
Good ride overall, felt strong, rode consistent, over achieved and did more miles than planned. Definitely an epic ride, one for the record book. I started with 2 x 24oz bottles plus a litre and 500 ml flask in my jersey pockets. With the lower temps I probably could have rode the whole distance with that but I picked up a litre bottle at the general store and finished flush.
