Gorgeous EVERYWHERE else but Point Reyes National Seashore where it got foggier and windier the closer we got to the lighthouse. It was so foggy that we stopped at the restrooms to put on layers and didn’t even bother to go all the way out.
The beginning of the ride was surprisingly peaceful. I'm not a fan of riding in Marin generally. There are too many cars and the roads can be pretty bad and most don't have an adequate shoulder. It's just not a very pleasant or peaceful riding experience. Hell, yesterdays ride through San Mateo, Foster City, and Belmont, there were longer stretches of no cars and less cars overall for an evening rush hour ride.
Last time we did this ride, we rode from the city but decided to cut out the garbage miles and start from Mike's Bikes.
The weather warmed up pretty quickly and we were glad we didn't have to bring jackets. The breeze was actually warm. That was until we dropped down Bofax. The breeze got cold and really the temperature seemed all over the place.
We decided to have lunch before going out to the lighthouse this time. First time checking out the deli when you first roll into Point Reyes Station. It was pretty good. It was definitely cold after lunch from the wind chill.
Once we climbed up the hill into Point Reyes National Seashore, the fog was evident. The wind didn't seem as bad as we thought. What we didn't realize was it was a cross-tail wind. As the fog got thicker and the wind picked up, it got colder too.
By the time we got out to the lighthouse, it was a vicious crosswind. It felt like crossing the GGB.
The return trip was very windy and not a lot of fun. The foggy conditions overall just made me want to get it over with. Not much to see and almost didn't know where we were at times. One highlight was traffic was stopped as cows were being moved across the road from one field to another.
Crazy how we left Point Reyes, it was sunny again and you would never know that there was any fog anywhere. We stopped in Point Reyes Station again for some snacks.
I wasn't in the best mood, not until we got to Sam P. Taylor and away from the noise of the cars. All the traffic was really ruining the ride and it wasn't like there was a lot of beautiful scenery to offset it either. I was surprised at how green everything still was though.
From Sam P. Taylor on though, the ride really turned around for me. It was sunny and warm, we stopped at Waystation for some onion rings and ran in to Philip. It was just a way more pleasant and peaceful experience.
