Shew. SHEW. It was 40* and cloudy at the top of the mountain, warming up to 65* and sunny by mid-day--the perfect day for a massive descent. Eastside down to Sweet Connie's over to Chukkar Butte and something in Hidden Springs before taking surface roads back to our gracious bike shuttle host's house. Chukkar Butte is a super-cool trail! Very San Diegan, only much longer and with more elevation change. The ride takes you from pine forests through lava fields and on to endless mountain grasslands, replete with grazing cows. Hi cows! There were almost no other humans on the trails, so the sense of isolation and peace that accompanies the sweeping views of the entire Treasure Valley could be savored to their fullest. I think only prayer sustained me through this mega ride, though. What a trip! We let some air out of my front fork a few miles in. Somehow my sag had reduced to about 15%? Weird. No injuries or mechanical issues, not even through the lava rock boulder field.
