The Col de Jau (1506m) marks the real start of the Pyrenees mountain range from the Mediterranean side. From the village of Catllar the long climb starts fairly easy until the mountain village of Mosset where it becomes more sustained as you ride into denser forest woodlands. There is a marked difference between the start of the climb in arid Mediterranean conditions and the end which is more typical of the Pyrenees with open grasslands and damp forests.Next > Raid Pyrenees Stage 04 - Col de PailhèresThe Col de Jau has featured three times in a Tour de France stage. Three French riders reached its summit first: Raymond Delisle in 1976, Richard Virenque in 1993 and Laurent Roux in 2001. Delisle was the only one who went on to win the stage. The Raid Pyrenees (Raid Pyrénéen) is an epic coast to coast route from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Take on the challenge, climb the individual mountains one by one and reach the Atlantic.
