Today itinerary was to ride around the Zaovinsko lake. Artificial lake on 850m elevation that gets water pumped up from Drina river. Lake supplies water to the generating station Perućac with pipe 6m wide and 8km long.
Nature along the route is mesmerizing. I saw rabbit and fox and many bird species. Rabbit was huge, bigger then fox.
To spice up the tour, I went exploring gravel roads south of the dam through the remote villages of Đurići, Popovići, Lazići. That is the area where, in 1864, Dr. Josip Pančić discovered endemic species of Omorika tree that bear his name nowadays. I came across the part of the forest that was rich in that specific tree type, see the picture.
There are multiple water springs along the way that were built by the common people and dedicated to some late member of the family. Great way to preserve the memory and help community.
