The Plan: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14296502
The plan was edited by Ken Hablow for good phone messages.
I had trouble finding folks to ride with at the start. Went out trailing a large NVP group, but got dropped early. Eventually caught back on with Kathryn OLeary, NVP friend of Alison's. We rode well together, back and forth in the presence of other NVPers. Very pleasant and easy ride. She was super steady puller. But also she was experiencing long-term rotator cuff pain and had arranged for a possible bail-out at the 56 mile lunch stop. So I enjoyed two PB&Js and Kathryn made her way to P'town. Our paths crossed at the returning ferry - lots of smiles.
At the 56 stop, Pati Kent from Marshfield (and GSW Seacoast last year) recognized Mr. Skittles. And one of her compatriots (Linda) asked "Why are they better". Poor lady - her ear almost fell off after the long explanation. So I rode with the two of them and Liz and Jerry (?), all from South Shore Riders for the rest of the way. It was really fun - Linda had mentioned hearing about me on a TNR where several folks there told her to go to TGIF to get a clinic - so she got a clinic on P2P - and was able to smile at the end.
At the very end of the ride in the parking lot, Carol Straney came over while I was talking to Linda and asked if I was ever going to have a ride with all the folks I had helped in the past and that I had helped her and Alison 15 years ago. Really nice stuff to hear. Makes all this riding really pay back - and it was all fun to boot.
And I even went out to eat with folks afterwards - another first - Jerry invited me to join them at The Lobster Pot - luckily they had a fish sandwich - awfully good. And we met Susan Anderson, the dental hygienist from Marshfield who had approved of Skittles once she heard my technique for keeping them away from long exposure to the teeth.
Other prior P2Pers for very quick chats - Michelle McDermott (2006), Paula Baxter and Beth Pasakarnis (2008), From 2014-Tandem guy - single one year, with his stoker the next year and this
