The cycling route out of St. Jacobs starts on a busy section of Arthur St. - use caution there's lots of semis and dump trucks on this section before you turn off onto Scotch Line Rd. Then you immediately are presented with more gorgeous Mennonite farm houses, red barns and endless wheat fields. About 18km into the ride you'll be riding across the West Montrose Covered bridge (The Kissing Bridge). As you continue thru the West Montrose Family Camp, the trail is overgrown but rideable. There are also some rocky, rooty sections and a section of stairs that you'll likely need to walk your bike down. Stock up on water and snacks in Belwood. Belwood Country Market makes wonderful sandwiches. If continuing on to Dundalk, there are no services available for the next 60km. Sideroad 24/25 just west of Grand Valley is a glorious, hard packed gravel road that made the final leg of this route a very comfortable ride. Historic Grand River bridge is another blocked off to vehicles but bikes have no problem maneuvering around the cement blocks. The last 4kms are an easy ride on the Shelburne Trails back into Dundalk.
