NO RAIN. Mostly sunny. Stopped at LBS to buy new cleats and the manager gave us advice that changed our route from the clear-cut logging roads (tree-to-sea recommendation). We opted for the North Island hwy, which had its car-related drawbacks. We prefer logging trucks to passenger vehicles. Continued on a logging road that had large stretches of 11-16% grades. Lots of large loose rocks and some stretches of road carved directly into granite, which really rattled our gear around. Not easy with full camping gear. Turned into the access road to our campground. Double-track that was also a creek bed, frequent large ponds covering the trail, giant ferns and moss-covered trees everywhere. Perfect beach campsite. Perfect weather.
