I was going to go out predawn but it was raining on and off all morning so I waited to afternoon when it was supposed to be clear, it was mostly but was super humid. For the most part it was a great ride with some rough roads and no shoulders and a lack of water stops... (around 35-40 miles in there is a 7/11, Dunkin Donuts, Pizzeria and a Deli and at 54 miles a WaWa). There is a 3 miles section near the middle I will be removing, I forgot it was an unneeded section which will make the first water stop a little closer. I didn't need any of the stops as I carried a 70 oz Camel Back Hydration System and two 24 oz bottles. I finished the 70 oz and one bottle, on a hotter day I would've finished at least 2 more 24 oz bottles. I only consumed 600 calories during this ride which was less than 1/2 of what I should have. I didn't run out of energy but did start to cramp with over 25 miles to go, possibly more nutrients could have prevented the cramping. I did my best to keep the cramps from taking over, as long as I kept the cadence 85 plus and knees in, I was good! When I finished the ride and dismounted the bike both of my legs locked up as well as my back which was actually hurting after 30 miles. It was funny I couldn't move but had to at the same time, so I had to force a step then squat to extend both legs and stretch hamstrings and back and repeat this for about 10 steps and drink fluids before I was able to walk upright! This ride was just about my limit for today, I felt strong on the flats and not too bad on most of the hills, some I had trouble maintaining speed as I was slowed to a crawl. I never needed to go into the little front gear. I am on a 52/36 chain rings with a 165 crank arms and a a 11 speed 28-14 rear cassette (this equivalent to a 175 crank arms with 53/39 chain rings and 11 speed 26-12 rear cassette, not really a hill climbing setup, I will need get a 30 or 32 teeth rear cassette but not sure if my rear derailleur will fit the 32 teeth, I know the 30 will fit). I am finally strong enough to use the full range on my rear cassette, at the season beginning I was only using the top 4 maybe 5 gears, now I am in the middle gears and shift up or down as needed. More hills and bigger ones to come! Glad I did this ride and it was enjoyable except when I was riding in circles trying to figure how to get on the correct route. I now know where I missed the turn, right after finishing Hill Rd, I was supposed make a left and I went straight... This is a great route with a few tweaks it can be even better! It's been over 8 years since I did this route.
