**Access:** Located just over the Maine Border is **Mt. Anagmenticus** (The @photo[Big “A”](15701301)) right in the middle of the coastline tourist Area of York, and Kittery Maine.  Easy access, less than 2 miles from Rt 95.  The Parking location I chose at the Bog Road recreation area is Free. There are 2 paid parking locations on Big A if you want something closer.

**The Ride:**  This is a sweet ride.  Exactly what I was looking for on my first trip out.  A long ride in the wilderness that had a lot of challenges, felt a bit scared a few times, lots of climbs, and got lost a couple of times.  To me that is fun, fun, fun.  Not a lot of eye candy, but each @photo[pond](15701290) on the property does have a view access.  Besides watching a @photo[Vulture](15701297) circle over my head for 20 minutes on Big A, I really liked the Granite Spine riding.  On some of the trails near Big A, you are on smooth Granite for 15% of the trail.  Long 30 – 50 foot trail sections of exposed granite. This ride is a long one, at 26 miles this route is longer than most folks can ride.

**Pond Trails:**  The pond trails are exactly what you would expect Pond Trails to be like.  Techy, short fast climbs, few hike-a-bikes, dodging trees on tight corners, go on forever, and difficult.  Just sayin….

**Bike Selection:**  MUST HAVE A DROPPER POST.  No Dropper = Trip over the Bars. 
Big A is a highly technical trail system surrounded by a lot less techy trail system. This ride starts as smooth trails, graduates to baby heads, then closer to Big A it goes from Chunk to Super Chunk.  I had my fully rigid MTB on my first adventure.  I like bumps, I put 1000 hard MTB miles on my rigid bike every year so I did fine.

I suggest a *Hard-tail or Full S* bike your first trip. Because this route is a lot of miles, chose wisely. Not for a Single Speed, too many steep + long climbs, or a Gravel Bike where you may pop your tires.

**Skill Level**: No question, this is **not** a ride for a novice. If you have a Suspension Bike, skill level = Advance Intermediate level at the very least. 
If a Rigid MTB, your skill level = Advanced or Expert. @photo[Rock Chunk](15764924) is only a few miles, but the length of this ride will be a problem for a lot of folks.

**PACK:**  Food and a lot of water. No place to stop, no place to help.  Bring a spare tube, even if tubeless. If you pop a tire out there (likely) you have a very long walk ahead of you.  Bear spray is a good idea, the Maine Wildernesses are known for large animals. Expect mountain size bugs in the warmer months.

**DO NOT GO** off the proposed route.  This area is surrounded by private homes and forest boundaries.  All are clearly marked.  All trails on my route are @photo[Legal](15701271), but some of the signs you see may give you pause.  Just remember these are legal access trails.

**ALSO:** You are near the @photo[Maine Coastline](15701268), you should take some time after your ride for a visit.
