One of the few out-and-backs am willing to do but we don't do it that often so why not.... the southern end has the Copperhead trail, which winds along the upper part of the creek gorge, lots of turns and climbs and descents over about 1.5 miles. Challenging and fun. Trails were quite dry despite rain in the last week; weather was delightfully fall. The track at 15.3 isn't wrong, however. Alternate trail is right at the creek edge, a good 6 feet above the stream. Riding companion stopped at a root and following biker put left foot down per usual,. without thinking annnnnd .... the dirt gave way and into the creek he went, tumbling down the bank head first. Into deep water. Cold water. Wet water. Had to have help to get out, but probably could have swam/walked 20 feet downstream to a sandbar... No real harm BUT managed to lose new prescription glasses somewhere in that deep water while flailing around, sigh. Otherwise, great ride!
