Tried out a different route through Livermore and went to Meadowlark Dairy for some soft serve ice cream.
It was quite cold to start and warm in the afternoon which always makes deciding what to wear so difficult. The forecast was for cloudy skies but it was clear almost the entire day.
By the time we started climbing Hamilton, we were already getting warm and stripped most of the layers off at Joseph D. Grant.
On the way up, there was some big KOM challenge so there were a lot riders on the climb.
The descent down the back side of Hamilton seemed bumpier than before but once we got to the bottom it was warm enough to remove the last of the layers. It was super pleasant the whole way to The Junction with almost no cars.
After The Junction there was a headwind which kinda sucked but it was still pleasant otherwise.
As we approached Livermore, my stomach wasn't feeling great. Luckily we were able to make a pitstop at Robertson Park not long after.
Parts of the bike path that we were checking out for the first time was nice. Other parts seemed derelict. The path had a lot of root pushing up the pavement though.
Meadowlark Dairy didn't have much of a line and we were able to get in and out of there pretty quickly. Important as we still had 25 miles to ride and we were trying to get back before sunset. Given the state of my stomach, I consider getting the lactose free ice cream to be safe but in the end just went with the regular soft serve.
We set a pretty brisk pace on the way back to Calaveras and up the first climb as well. It was just before Calaveras that my stomach was bothering me again. It was okay pretty much until we got to the top of the first climb and then I just didn't have the energy in my legs. Not sure why Bob and Sonny didn't drop back since I had nothing to catch back up to them.
Descending Calaveras, I was feeling okay and thought maybe I could make it back to Sonny's but we were going by Ed R Levin County Park so I made another pit stop... which was the right call.
Overall a great ride that was warmer than expected.
