So glad Emily Cheng reached out to do a Peninsula ride. I wanted to show her something new and we settled on Skeggs.
I've been wanting to go back and explore Skeggs for such a long time but the elevation stats are always so daunting and a big deterrent, as you can see by our ride totals. And our ride was actually supposed to be longer which much more climbing but more on that later.
I'm so glad we went though because it was breathtakingly beautiful. The ground was slightly muddy but mostly tacky. Some of the roots, rocks, and bridges were quite slippery though.
From El Corte Madera Creek Trail where it tees with Resolution Trail (about 11 o'clock on the map) back to the parking lot were all new trails and I didn't know what to expect. I kind of thought that all the trails would be pretty similar to the ones I'd already done before - not to technical and fine on a gravel bike. Well, we discovered there's quite a variety of trails and N. and S. Leaf Trails, while super pretty, also had some rooty sections, drops, and rock gardens that were not suited for gravel bikes. And given the muddy conditions, not really suitable on a MTBs, not for me anyway.
Virginia Mill Trail and Blue Blossom Trail later on were so much fun.
The long climb back up to the top was quite brutal. At the top of it I was so tired, I kinda forgot all the new trails we had just done. We still had an inner loop to do but we were also considering just heading back to the cars.
I'm very glad we decided to continue on Blue Blossom. It was a really fun flow trail. There were a few more outs that we could take which is why continued.
At the end of the trail, it was decision time again and we decided to go up Spring Board and just do the fun stuff on Oljon and Sierra Morena to finish off the ride. I had no idea how brutally steep Spring Board was.
Cutting the ride short was totally the right call. On the way back from our Sierra Morena out-n-back, I was starting to get really hungry. I'd already eaten my food and I don't think I would've struggled so hard to finish the planned inner loop.
We had planned to have lunch at Alice's Restaurant but it was more packed than I had ever seen it before. We headed to Alpine Inn which was pretty empty at the time we arrived and just perfect!
Such a great day!
