*I think I might need to update my ride title as I managed to PR Kings by nearly a minute despite feeling terrible. That was maybe the last straw for my legs though.
We had a smaller crew and a shortened ride today so Lauren could catch a plane ride this afternoon.
It was warm in the sun but the wind chill was SO cold. The worst kind of weather as I was both boiling and cold at the same time. There’s no good way to dress for this. The Perfetto jersey probably would’ve been the right call for today had I known.
It took my legs a while to get going but they were feeling okay on the way over to Corby’s. He was making his world famous waffle recipe. Such a lovely start to the day, I didn’t want to leave when the rest of the crew arrived. And I was the only one to take him up on breakfast.
On Kings, I was just hanging on. Around halfway up I reverse dropped the group. Towards the top I closed the gap again and thought about doing my final sprint to maybe catch back up but the way I was feeling, I didn’t even try. I definitely paid for yesterday's efforts and redlining.
At the top, Lauren said her goodbyes and headed back with Fred. Corby, Brad, Erik, Steve and I continued our loop.
Along Skyline, I just didn’t have the legs and after the second hump was dropped. It sucked that it was a headwind on the descent. I was going as fast as I could and I had a cyclist, tucked, pass me like I was standing still. No chance of catching him and getting his draft.
On Cañada, Corby got a flat and none of us could get his tire back on. Vittorio’s bad? He had to call for a pickup. Steve headed back to checkout while I waited with Corby.
I wanted to do a longer ride today and thought about getting lunch at Alpine Inn or Bucks but as I rode over, my legs just felt like trash so I bailed on that idea and got a burrito and took a flatter way home.
