Melinda's farewell tour has begun. 😭😭😭 One of the things she wanted to do before leaving was climb the Bay Area's four peaks. She's climbed Mt. Tam and Mt. Diablo before and still has Mt. Hamilton and Mt. Umunhum to do. She's only climbed Mt. Diablo once before and has never done Morgan Territory. It's been a while since I've done that ride myself so we decided to start with that. It was a Windows XP screensaver kind of day - blue skies and green hills. The ride started and ended cold but it was quite warm but most of the ride. On the climb up Mt. Diablo, Melinda got to check out the bike turnouts that were new to her since the last time she rode it. As a joke, I called it the Tour de Turnouts as we stopped in a couple of them to take layers off, eventually down to just shorts and short sleeves. If it wasn't for a slight chill in the light breeze, it felt like summer. I only needed my vest for the descent but from the bottom to the top of Morgan Territory, depending how much wind chill there was, we'd need to add or shed layers. Morgan Territory was really pretty and it was also interesting to see the power of the water that had carved huge chunks out of the river banks. Once we got to the top, we had to put everything back on for the descent as the wind had really picked up and it was quite cold. The views though were gorgeous. Melinda's wasn't feeling as good as she did on MLK. She just didn't have the energy up the climbs. We're hoping she feels better by the time we tackle Mt. Umunhum because you don't want to climb that on anything but you're best day.
