Also checking my puncture repair.
It was mostly sunny but I did briefly get rained and hailed on (by very tiny hail) in Hillsborough.
I had patched the hole and initially struggled to get the tire seated back on the wheel. The GP5000 S TR was slightly tougher to get back on than past tires. Not sure if it was the tire or the wheel as this was the first tire install on this wheel.
My compressor was able to seat about 1/3 of the tire and just expanded the rest, making it look like it was seated but the bead remained in the center channel of the wheel. All the closest bike shops are closed today and tomorrow. Just as I was getting ready to go out and find a bike shop, I thought, let's try a normal bike pump. I know it hasn't worked in the past but that was with higher volume tires.
Immediately, it worked and it was pinging with the bead popping on. One problem, I could hear air leaking from my supposedly patched hole. D'oh.
So a put in a bit of sealant to try and plug up the hole. It would seal but if I pressed the area around the hole, it would open up again. I kept bathing the hole in sealant and pressing until it seemed to seal.
Since it was so nice out (and Melinda is chasing me miles for the year) I went out to see if the seal was holding for real.
Initially it seemed like it was but then at one point it looked like sealant was slowly leaking out. And then at one point I went through a puddle and a heard the hiss as the seal let go. I lost a bunch of air and sealant but it still seemed okay.
Stupidly, I remembered to bring everything but a pump and considered adding some air with a CO2 but didn't want to waste it. Riding it, it still felt okay.
At this point I was in Hillsborough, so still closer to turn around than finish the ride but I decided to push my luck. Surprisingly, even with the low pressure, it rode fine.
When I got back and added air, it said I was ~25psi, so probably somewhere under 30psi during the ride.
After that one blowout, it seemed to have permanently sealed. I added some air when I got home and rode it around a little more. No leaks, even when I poked and pressed the area around the hole.
I'm going to call this fixed. 🤞😬🫠
