Seven follow me west out of Uxbridge: Bob Morgan, Cliff Jones, Alan Potter, Graham Orford, Chris Kinsey, Dave Taylor and Keith Hales. There's a bit of a chill in the air as we set off along the Oxford Road, but we soon warm up climbing to Denham Mount. Crossing the A40 we follow the A413 to Chalfont St Peter, and our coffee stop at Crumbs. We are joined by John MacMillan,
Soon are on our way again. We climb steadily past Chalfont St Giles, Winchmore Hill and Holmer Green then descend into Gt Missenden and The Cross Keys for lunch. The food is pricey but the service good. I opt for a starter which is quite substantial.
Afterwards we climb Frith Hill, which is quite a monster. Those who overtake me are kind enough to wait at the top. We are on the flat by Hyde Heath and stop at The Masterchef at Amersham for afternoon tea. Although nine of us arrive, only four go in for refreshments: Alan, Cliff, Graham and me.
The glorious sunshine we had been enjoying has been replaced by threatening clouds, as we leave Amersham. Soon the showers arrive. As we head for Chalfont Common, Alan stops to put on another layer. Cliff who has mislaid his phone, continues onward, probably anxious to explain to Jackie his lack of text messages. The remaining three of us head for Denham Village and home.
