Snowy Mt. Hamilton adventure with Emily Bei Cheng. Very happy I messaged Emily to see what she was up to today. My original idea was to go to Dad’s Luncheonette but Emily suggested Hamilton. There was more rain in the forecast for Mt. Hamilton vs. none for Half Moon Bay. I was game since I have rain gear. I had to lend Emily a rain jacket and we were good to go. The good thing about the forecast was the rain down below was going to be snow up top. Right around 1800’ we got sleet and then at 2500’ we got fluffy POW! 😍 It was so pretty. Hwy 130 is closed to cars from Quimby/Joseph D. Grant onward. At that level there really isn’t any snow yet. Lucky us though as we got it mostly car free save the occasional CalTrans snow plow or vehicle. Towards the top, Emily had a weird front flat. Not sure what happened as we pumped air back in and it seemed okay until the end of the ride. There’s a slow leak somewhere. Right where we stopped was a group of cute quail. Sorry you weren’t there, Irene. It looked like it was going to be sunny when we got to the top but then another system rolled through. It made the descent quite cold. Normally I would ride faster in the descent to warm up but there was slush, salt, and sand and it was a little difficult to judge the grip. At one point my upper lip was just numb like I'd gone to the dentist. I had no control over it. We really didn’t warm up until we got back down passed Quimby. The lower part was sunny golden hour goodness with gorgeous green hillsides. It was such a beautiful way to end a great ride.
