Bob wanted to get some miles in before doing the Solvang Double. There was some worry about it raining today but it remained dry the whole ride. The other concern was how to dress. I hedged my bets and thought I might be a little overdressed putting on some gear that would keep me dry in case there was a little rain. But the wind chill actually made me question whether I wore enough during the first half of the ride and a little towards the end. I was never cold but at times I was chilly rather than being warm the whole time. It was supposed to be a century down to Gilroy but we ended up having lunch in Almaden since we were all hungry. After lunch, we stopped at Calero for water and I saw someone wearing a DuVine jersey. Turns out he was the father of a new guide, Owen that just started at the end of last year. We had a nice chat. On the way north we had a very nice tailwind and Bob took us a much more pleasant way through San Jose than I did on my Umunhum ride. Sometime after Morgan Hill, my stomach was feeling ready for some donuts and by the time we got into South San Jose, I was getting hungry. We tried and failed at a couple donut shops. Why do they close so early? Eventually, I just stopped at a Starbucks but there was a Tous Les Jour bakery in that mall and we went there instead. Ordered a bunch of pastries which hit the spot! Most of the way back, I had no idea where we were and when I finally asked, we were almost home. A pleasant surprise.
